Daddy's little Princess
by Kristaline Shanon

When you turn your head
When you refuse to see
Creating people damage
Ruining beautiful minds

When you settle for bad
When you sell aloneness
Thinking not of refugees
Expressing nothing loudly

They heard you
You didn’t care
They don’t care
Learned deafness.

Aren’t you proud?

Attention hound
Created perfectly
In deepest hatred.

Importance measured cash
Education basks gloriously
Humanity ranks nowhere
Sickness altered for ego.

Daddy’s little princess falls
Strangers soothe her wounds
Ranting curses path crossers
Medications cure nothing

She heard you
You Don’t care
She doesn’t care
Learned Stupidity.

Aren’t you thrilled?

Narcissistic mess
Created secretly
In deepest apathy

Evil keeps breathing down my neck

Evil keeps breathing down my neck
Screaming in my face each day
Smells that make me want to wretch
Am I strong enough to push it away?
Armed with traumatic memories
He slings them at me like bombs
The giggling idiot that I can’t see
Turns out to me my dear mom
Trust the wrong ones and you die
The right path with make you complete
Blinded by Beezulbub’s flies
Can I protect those at my feet?
Decisions I have to make today
About removing someone’s fire
Can I take his confusion away
And move him even higher?
Responsibility falls into my lap
Like a thousand angry bees
I never asked for demonic crap
To infest what’s left of me.

FUCKING WHAT?
by Kristaline Shanon

Docile children by invitation only
Devils doorway swings ajar slightly
Tumbling quietly into deception
Swimming in fires creek eternally
Dark Indiscretions silenced quietly
Confusion controlling the truth
My dark father, entirely my fault
No adoration for Satan’s Spawn

Fucking what?

Demon seed spewing dark truths
Integrity attacked repeatedly
Deception engulfing hard truths
Spoken aloud by tiny warriors
Rage’s crimson flames fed heartily
Sensitivity brutalized repetitively
Dark school teaches self-absorption
Kindness punished consistently

Fucking what?

Blamed placed on my shoulders
Disguised as righteous indignation
Invisibility cemented by fallacies
Sincerity questioned assiduously
Sadistic reminders in my face
Screaming family loyalty laws
Punishment will materialize now
Sacrifice must soon be offered

Fucking what?

Personal attacks on my character
Reassure my decisions
Verbal erasures mark me not
Recreating my existence
“I will take five minutes of freedom
Over a lifetime under your thumb.”

I HAVE A QUESTION
by Kristaline Shanon

I have a question
Frustrating gibberish
I am prepared for
Why did you bother?
Joy of a child
Doesn’t reach you
Adult sized shoes
Too big to fill
Disappointment
A sad certainty
Raising your baby
An impossibility
No protection
From predators
In the home
Guiltless slug
Emotion drips
Onto children
Burning scars
Visually disturbing
To the trained eye
Denial deepens
Questioning me
Blame the kids
Raising themselves
Newest campaign
Random badness
Does not exist
You know what?
Never mind
I stopped
Caring
Many
Moons
Ago

INVISIBLE
by Kristaline Shanon

Invisible
Understanding dismissed
Destroyed ever so brutally
By maternal indifference
Acceptance impossible
Silent children congregate
Satan’s Doorway beckoning
Jagged lines formulate
Blinded innocence
Falling into hell’s fire
Don’t you tell
Fuck you all
Unruly girl
Forthcoming
Personal existence
Erased verbally
Not surprised
I always knew
I was invisible

YOUR FAT UGLY HEAD
by Kristaline Shanon

Your fat, ugly head
Your hair is like glue
I thought I'd die laughing
When I saw you...

                             Listening and Speaking
Those who have known what it is to be unsafe in their homes, in their lives, learn to listen with more than their ears. Pain and
isolation have a language all their own, that runs under the surface, in places where the spirit works to understand and process
the presence of violence. But a time can come, when the gift of listening and speaking finds freedom.  The creative people taking
part in this anthology have donated their works, to support and validate those who are working hard to reclaim their voices. As a
gesture of thanks for their generosity, a regular donation will be made by the editors of this project to CASA (Community Action
                                                                                                              Stops Abuse)
